  Notes	TITLES: Duke of Lancaster, Duke of Aquitaine, Count of Derby, Lincoln, Leicester, King titular of Castille & Leon. FAMILY: The children of John and Katherine took the name of Beaufort from John's lost lordship in Champagne. He was the 4th son of King Edward III., and so denominated from the place of his birth, Gaunt, anno 1340. He was also "Earl of Richmond, Duke of Lancaster, and Duke of Aquitaine, K.G., who espoused, for his third wife Katherine, daughter of Sir Paen Roet, Knt., King at Arms, and widow of Sir Hugh (or Otes) Swineford, but had...issue by her before his marriage, who were legitimated by parliament, lin the 20th Richard II., for all purposes, save accession to the crown."
