Kntd. 20 Feb 1547; cr. Viscount Montagu 2 Sept 1554; KG nom 23 Apr, inst. 17 Oct 1555. Montagu died on 19 Oct 1592 at his house in Horsley, Surrey, and was buried at Midhurst, tomb later removed to Easebourne church, close to the entrance to Cowdray Park."
